Mjelle is a Beach in Norway

Mjelle is one of the best-loved beaches near Bodø, on the coast northeast of the city in Nordland, northern Norway. Its sand has an unusual reddish tinge, weathered from the local rock, that sets it apart from the pale strands elsewhere on the coast. The beach curves between rocky headlands, backed by grassy dunes and heather slopes, and looks out to open sea and distant islands. It takes a short walk in from the road to reach, which keeps it quiet, and in summer it draws swimmers, walkers and campers making the most of the round-the-clock daylight. The cold Atlantic water tests even the hardy. Bodø lies just north of the Arctic Circle at around 67°N, well inside the auroral zone, and with no lights nearby and a wide, open horizon over the sea, Mjelle is a superb place to stand on the sand and watch the northern lights on a clear winter night.

Aurora hunting in Bodø?

The aurora season here runs from September to March, with the best chances of seeing the Northern Lights in October, February and March. With minimal light pollution, Mjelle could offer a dramatic backdrop for aurora viewing.
