Storsteinen is a Mountain at Storsteinen, Tromsø, Norway

Storsteinen is a rocky mountain ledge on the mainland above Tromsø, in northern Norway, at around 420 metres. It is the classic viewpoint over the city. From its railed platform the island of Tromsø lies spread out across the sound, ringed by fjords and sharp peaks, and on a clear day the view runs for miles in every direction. Most visitors ride up on the Fjellheisen cable car, but a steep stone staircase, the Sherpa-built steps, climbs the mountainside for those who would rather walk, and beyond the ledge the open fell rolls on toward higher summits and hiking trails. There is a café and restaurant at the top. What makes Storsteinen special is the way it lifts you out of the town. Tromsø sits at around 70°N, deep in the auroral zone, and with the city glow largely below and a wide, dark horizon to the north, this is one of the most celebrated places in the world to stand and watch the northern lights.
