Nordnorsk Vitensenter is a Science Museum and Planetarium at Hansine Hansens veg 17, 9019 Tromsø, Norway

Nordnorsk Vitensenter is the science centre of northern Norway, on the university campus in Tromsø. It is built around getting hands on. The exhibits invite visitors to push, pull, spin and experiment their way through subjects from energy and weather to the human body, with plenty to keep children busy, and at its heart is a domed planetarium. The planetarium is the real draw. Its shows sweep across the night sky and out into the universe, and among them are films explaining the northern lights, how the sun’s particles meet the Earth’s magnetic field to paint the polar sky. There is a fitting connection here. Tromsø, at around 70°N, is a world centre for aurora research, and the science of those lights was first pieced together by Norwegian physicists working in exactly this part of the Arctic. It makes an engaging stop, especially on a cloudy day when the real aurora is hiding.
