Jektefartsmuseet, the Norwegian Jekt Trade Museum, sits on the shore at Bodøsjøen, just outside Bodø in Nordland. It is built around a single ship. The jekt was the broad-beamed, square-rigged wooden cargo vessel that for centuries carried dried fish south from northern Norway to Bergen and brought grain and goods back, the lifeblood of trade along this coast. At the heart of the museum, housed in a striking modern building, stands the Anna Karoline, the last surviving jekt of its kind, preserved in full and towering over the galleries around it.
