KOKS is a Scandinavian Restaurant at Frammi við Gjónna, Leynar, Faroe Islands

KOKS is the Faroe Islands' most celebrated restaurant, set in a remote old farmhouse by Lake Leynar, reached down a rough track beneath brooding mountains some way north of Tórshavn. It was the first place in the Faroes to earn a Michelin star, taking one in 2017 and a second in 2019 under head chef Poul Andrias Ziska. The long tasting menu is drawn almost entirely from the islands themselves, with anything not found locally brought in from elsewhere in the Nordic region. The larder might look sparse at first glance, but the cold northern climate makes everything grow slowly and ripen at its own pace, and the flavours that result are remarkably deep. Diners sit surrounded by pine and sheepskin, a warm refuge at the far edge of the map.
