Faroe Islands
The Faroe Islands are a self-governing archipelago of 18 volcanic islands in the North Atlantic, midway between Norway, Iceland and Scotland at 62°N. The islands are sparsely populated (around 54,000 people) with virtually no light pollution outside Tórshavn, the tiny capital. The main challenge for aurora viewing on the Faroes is the maritime climate. Cloud, rain and wind are frequent, so flexibility and patience are essential. The compact size of the archipelago means darker viewing spots on the outer islands are always within an hour or two of Tórshavn.
