Þjóðveldisbær is the Great Outdoors in Iceland

Þjóðveldisbærinn is a reconstructed medieval farmstead in the Þjórsárdalur valley of south Iceland, built to show how people lived in the Commonwealth age around the year 1100. Modelled on the excavated farm at nearby Stöng, buried by an eruption of Hekla, its turf-walled longhouse and outbuildings recreate the timber and turf construction of the Viking era. A vivid window onto early Icelandic life, with a turf church alongside.
