Alta Strand Camping is an idyllic, well-kept campsite on the banks of the Alta River at Steinfossveien 29, a little way out from the centre of Alta in Finnmark. The riverside setting is its great draw, an ideal base for fishing, walking and quiet evenings by the water, with cabins and pitches for tents and caravans. Alta lies at around 70°N, deep within the auroral zone, and calls itself the City of the Northern Lights. On a clear winter night the open ground along the river, away from the town glow, gives campers a fine dark outlook for watching the aurora over the water.
