Mýrdalsjökull is a Scenic Lookout in Iceland

Mýrdalsjökull is a great ice cap in the highlands north of Vík, the fourth-largest glacier in Iceland. Beneath its ice sleeps the mighty Katla, one of the country's most powerful volcanoes, whose eruptions have unleashed catastrophic glacial floods across the sands below. Its outlet glaciers reach down toward the lowlands, and guided trips onto the ice and into its blue caves set off from its edges. A vast, brooding presence over the whole region.

The aurora season here runs from September to April, with the best chances of seeing the Northern Lights in October and March. The natural setting around Mýrdalsjökull makes it a wonderful spot to watch for the Northern Lights.
