Hjörleifshöfði is a lone, grass-topped mountain rising 220 metres from the black sands east of Vík, once a coastal headland before glacial floods pushed the shoreline out to sea. Named for one of Iceland's first settlers, it is ringed by wild volcanic desert and holds a famous cave, sometimes called the Yoda Cave for the shape of its mouth. A trail climbs to its flat summit for wide views over the sands and ocean.
