Nauthólsvík is Reykjavík's geothermal beach, a curve of imported golden sand on the city's southern shore. Hot water is piped into a lagoon to warm the sea within it, so bathers can swim in comfort in a country where the ocean is otherwise bitterly cold, and hot tubs, changing rooms and a sauna sit alongside. Hardy locals brave the open sea year-round, and in summer the beach fills with sunbathers.
