Trollsteinen (850 m) is a Mountain in Svalbard and Jan Mayen

Trollsteinen, the Troll Stone, is an 850-metre peak above Longyearbyen and the highest of the classic summits climbed from the town on the Svalbard archipelago. It is the big one. Reaching it usually means going on beyond nearby Sarkofagen, following a long ridge and crossing glacier ice to a rocky top that stands above almost everything around it. The reward is one of the finest views in central Spitsbergen, out over the Longyear valley, the Adventfjord and a vast spread of glaciers and flat-topped mountains. This is a serious mountain day, taken with a guide, roped up on the ice, and always mindful of weather and the risk of polar bears. Standing at around 78°N, deep inside the auroral zone and among the most northerly summits on Earth, Trollsteinen catches the first and last of any light in the shoulder seasons, and through the polar night the northern lights sweep across the sky above its glaciers.
