Jäniskoski is a powerful set of rapids and cascades on the Juutuanjoki river, a short walk from the village of Inari in northern Finnish Lapland. In summer, the surrounding forest is dense and green, and the sound of the rapids carries through the trees long before you reach them. In winter, the falls partially freeze into layered ice formations while faster sections continue to flow beneath, creating an atmospheric contrast of frozen spray and dark open water. The site is quiet and rarely crowded, even in peak season. Its proximity to Inari, combined with the open sky above the river gorge, makes it a convenient spot for an evening walk under the Northern Lights without straying far from the village.
