The Tony Knowles Coastal Trail is Anchorage's best-loved path, an eleven-mile paved route running from downtown along the shore of Cook Inlet. Walkers, runners and cyclists follow it past Elderberry Park and Earthquake Park to Kincaid Park at its far end, with the water on one side and woodland on the other. Moose are a common sight along the way, and the views reach across the inlet to the mountains, with Denali sometimes on the horizon. It is as popular for a winter ski or a low-sun evening stroll as for a summer ride.

  • Best trail in Anchorage. I always run here because it’s super convenient and safe, and it’s a beautiful place to see the sunset in the summer. Definitely an essential place to visit.
