Skoddevarre is a Mountain in Norway

Skoddevarre is a fell on the western side of Alta, in Finnmark in the far north of Norway, above the Hjemmeluft bay where the town’s famous rock carvings lie. It is a well-worn local favourite. A marked path climbs steadily from the edge of town through birch woods and onto open heath, gaining height until the fjord, the river delta and the scattered lights of Alta lie spread out far below. There is a summit shelter and cairn to aim for, and the walk is popular year-round, on foot in summer and on skis or snowshoes through the long winter. Alta sits in a broad inland valley at around 70°N, its dry, clear skies giving it a name as one of the finest aurora spots in Norway. Climb Skoddevarre on a dark winter evening, above the glow of the streets, and the northern lights arc across an open horizon over the fjord and fells.
