Komsa is a Mountain in Alta, Norway

Komsa is the fell that stands over the town of Alta, in Finnmark in the far north of Norway. It doubles as the town’s viewpoint. Marked paths climb from the streets below through birch and open heath to a broad summit, where the whole of Alta spreads out beneath you, the wide Alta fjord, the river delta and the mountains rolling away inland. The name carries weight in archaeology. Early Stone Age finds made on its slopes gave their name to the Komsa culture, among the oldest known traces of human life in northern Norway, dating back some 10,000 years to the first hunters who followed the retreating ice north. It is a popular local hike, easy in summer and a snowshoe route in winter. Alta lies at around 70°N in a dry inland valley famous for clear skies, and on a dark winter night the open top of Komsa, lifted above the town lights, gives a fine sweep of horizon for watching the northern lights.
