Reynisdrangar is a Mountain, Scenic Lookout and Island at 870 Vík í Mýrdal, Iceland, located in Dyrhólaey

Reynisdrangar are the dramatic basalt sea stacks that rise from the ocean just off Reynisfjara beach near Vík. Sharp black pinnacles standing in the surf, they are wrapped in legend: folklore holds them to be trolls turned to stone by the rising sun as they tried to haul a ship ashore. Best seen from the black beach or the cliffs above the town, they are among the most photographed sights on the south coast.

Aurora hunting in Vík?

The aurora season here runs from September to April, with the best chances of seeing the Northern Lights in October and March. The natural setting around Reynisdrangar makes it a wonderful spot to watch for the Northern Lights.

  • Very nice and cool place. Beautiful basalt colony end wonderful beats. But By careful of the weather, the waves can by dangerous ( deadly), Never turn the back to the water.

  • Just west of Vík you can drive to Dyrhólaey. It's beautiful to look at with abundant birdlife. At Reynisfjara there's a cave, a very beautiful basalt column wall with views over Reynisdrangar.

    Rétt vestan við Vík er hægt að keyra að Dyrhólaey. Þar er fallegt yfir að líta og mikið fuglalíf. Við reynisfjöru er hellir, mjög fallegur stuðlabergsveggur með útsýni yfir Reynisdranga.
