The Old Harbour is one of Reykjavík's most characterful corners, where fishing boats, whale-watching vessels and the odd tall ship share the quays. Once purely working docks, it now mixes seafood restaurants, cafés and museums with the everyday business of the sea. Trips out to spot whales and puffins leave from here, and the harbour gives fine views across the bay to Mount Esja. On a clear, dark night the open waterfront is a good place to look north for the aurora.
