Öxarárfoss is a Waterfall and Scenic Lookout at Efrivallavegur, Þingvallahreppur, Iceland, located in Þingvellir National Park (Þingvellir þjóðgarður)

Öxarárfoss is a pretty waterfall within Þingvellir National Park, on the Golden Circle route east of Reykjavík. The Öxará river spills over the edge of the Almannagjá gorge, the great rift where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates pull apart, tumbling onto boulders below. A short boardwalk leads to it through this historic and geologically remarkable landscape, where Iceland's early parliament once met.

The aurora season here runs from September to April, with the best chances of seeing the Northern Lights in October and March. The natural setting around Öxarárfoss makes it a wonderful spot to watch for the Northern Lights.

  • Nice waterfall with woods pathways. However, it is small waterfall that doesn’t worth to drive long distance to see but if you are in the National park go & enjoy.

  • Perfectly tasteful water you can drink and walk on the cold fresh water, but only in summer :)

  • This is very beautifully place you do have to pay for parking on your phone which is 750 isk as they don’t have any parking meters so be there warned
