Lerwick Harbour is the busy heart of Shetland's capital, sheltered behind the island of Bressay. Fishing boats, ferries, cruise ships and visiting yachts share its waters, and the old stone lanes and piers of the town run right down to the quay. Long a crossroads of the North Atlantic and North Sea, the harbour is the lifeblood of Lerwick and the stage for its famous Up Helly Aa fire festival each winter.
