Jasper National Park is the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies, a vast wilderness of jagged peaks, glaciers, lakes, canyons and forest in western Alberta. Wildlife roams freely, from elk and bighorn sheep to bears and wolves, and the small town of Jasper sits at its heart as a base for exploring. The whole park is a designated Dark Sky Preserve, one of the largest in the world, so on a clear night its mountain skies blaze with stars and, during strong solar activity, the northern lights.

The aurora season here runs from October to March, with the best chances of seeing the Northern Lights in October, November, February and March. Head to Jasper National Park after dark for a chance to see the aurora away from artificial light.
