Denali National Park and Preserve spreads over six million acres of Interior Alaska, built around Denali itself, the highest peak in North America at 20,310 feet. A single road runs deep into the park, and beyond its early miles private cars give way to shuttle buses, leaving vast tracts of tundra, taiga and glacier to the grizzly bears, wolves, moose, caribou and Dall sheep that roam them. It is a landscape of raw, roadless wilderness on an enormous scale. The park lies at around 63°N, well within the auroral zone, and its dark, unpolluted skies make it one of the finest places anywhere to watch the northern lights once the long nights return.

  • Peaking at 20,320 feet, Denali (the High One in Athabascan), is North America's tallest mountain. Most visitors enjoy the view from afar, that almost 1,000 climbers summit the peak every year.
