Gold Dredge 8 is a historic mining relic on the Old Steese Highway just north of Fairbanks, a huge floating dredge that once worked the goldfields of the Interior. Now a visitor attraction, it tells the story of the region's Gold Rush past through tours that ride a narrow-gauge train to the dredge and let visitors try their hand at panning for real gold. It sits near the route of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, and makes an engaging half-day out into Fairbanks history.

What a great place. This is how a venue should be run. Informative, interesting, happy friendly locals, FREE GOLD, cookies, coffee, and hot chocolate. Souvenirs reasonably priced.

I liked it very much. The visit lasted 2 hours but it was very fast. We found $12 in gold but they don't buy it :(
