Elk Island National Park lies just east of Edmonton, a haven of rolling aspen parkland, lakes and wetland teeming with wildlife. It is best known for its herds of plains and wood bison, part of a long conservation success story, and for the elk, moose and beavers that share the land. A designated dark sky preserve, far from city light, it is among the finest places near Edmonton to see the stars and, on an active night, the aurora.
