The aurora season here runs from October to March, with the best chances of seeing the Northern Lights in October, November, February and March. Alberta Railway Museum makes for a great daytime activity while you wait for darkness and the aurora.
Take the walking tour of beautifully restored trains. You can ride a buggy on the tracks as well. Wear comfortable and durable shoes as you'll be moving around dirt and uneven surfaces.

Worth the drive! The train ride was a real hot with the kids. Also lots for kids to try.
