The Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre is the territorial museum of the Northwest Territories, overlooking Frame Lake in Yellowknife. Its galleries trace the human and natural history of the North, from the cultures of the Dene, Métis and Inuvialuit peoples to the land, wildlife and Gold Rush and mining past of the region. Free to enter, it is the natural place to make sense of the vast territory around the city.

  • A very comprehensive history and folklore museum. It's within walking distance of the city centre, so it might be a good place for a stroll after an aurora tour. Admission is free.
