Saariselkä Metsähallitus is a Hiking Trail in Finland
Saariselkä Metsähallitus marks a trailhead on the edge of the village, where marked routes lead into Urho Kekkonen National Park, which is managed by Metsähallitus, Finland’s Parks and Wildlife service. The trails range from short walks to multi-day treks between wilderness huts. Beyond the trailhead the land is dark and open, which makes it a good place to head for the northern lights on a clear winter night.

The aurora season here runs from September to March, with the best chances of seeing the Northern Lights in September, October, February and March. With minimal light pollution, Saariselkä Metsähallitus could offer a dramatic backdrop for aurora viewing.
